The EAFPS Executive Board is delighted to inform you that EAFPS has created an “EAFPS Rhinoplasty Masterclass (ERM). As you know, rhinoplasty is becoming a more complex procedure. The necessity to create a true Master in Rhinoplasty has been validated during the last EAFPS General Assemblies. This European Master, certified by the EAFPS, looks nowadays a crucial step in the educational system promoted by the Academy. This will be a fantastic opportunity to participate to this newly structured educational program and to get benefit from this unique teaching by experts.
Principles:
What is the ERM? The “EAFPS Rhinoplasty Masterclass “represents a diploma that the scholar has followed a specific complementary education in Rhinoplasty Procedures.
What is the ERM Educational Program?
The applicant must complete a full formation that necessarily includes:
- General conditions and attendance:
- Three months of attendance specialized in rhinoplasty that can be divided at maximum in three periods of one month over a maximum period of two years.
- Attendance at least one Rhinoplasty Dissection Course organized under the auspices of the EAFPS. This list will be updated every year.
- Attendance to the EAFPS Annual Meeting
- Inscription fees must be paid to the EAFPS before starting the ERM educational cycle. The fees will be available on the EAFPS website.
- The choice of the tutors (2 or 3), confirmed through a written acceptance letter is mandatory
- The scholar will have to provide their personal accommodations and insurance if required.
- Experience:
- At least thirty septorhinoplasties, corresponding to at least 10 rhinoplasties per month in the 3 months program, must have been followed during the ERM program. Septoplasties alone done without rhinoplasty are not validating this item but are giving an added value to the scholar’ experience.
- The scholar should ideally be exposed to a combination of:
- Primary rhinoplasties including preservation, structure and/or resection procedures.
- Secondary rhinoplasties including structure and rib/auricular cartilage harvesting.
- Open and closed approaches must be mastered.
- Endonasal procedures, such as septoplasties, septoturbinoplasties, pyriform aperture surgeries are giving an added value to the final document.
- Documents:
- To provide a fulfilled document provided by the EAFPS- Education Committee in which the scholar provides information regarding his ERM-CV.
- The final document given to the EAFPS Education Committee must be signed by the scholar and all the tutors.
Who can apply to the ERM Program as a Scholar?
- EAFPS Full Active Members and Junior members
- The age is not a criterion. Experienced surgeons can apply for the ERM.
- European Board-Certified Doctors can apply for ERM. ERM is not a diploma given together with the EBEC.
- Exceptions: ERM equivalence certificate:
- a few members having already performed within the last two years (2023 and/or 2024) an equivalent educational cycle corresponding to the whole items may request an ERM equivalence diploma. However, they will have to pay the fees to get an examination of their request by the EAFPS EB.
- ERM Tutors (European or Non-European) who wish to get the ERM diploma must apply and validate the full documents (except the surgical item that is considered already completed).
- Non-European Fellows. They can apply to the ERM following the same conditions than the European members. They must be EAFPS members or Junior members, as a sine qua non
- Limitations:
- Waiting list: as the ERM Centers are in limited number, it may happen that a waiting list must be done. This waiting list will be done according to a chronologic inscription order.
- Choice of the tutors: The ERM applicant can choose his/her tutors according to their wishes, knowing the required items that must be tag. They must provide the acceptance of their fellowship by the tutors, including the dates of their schedule before starting their cursus
- Support: The EAFPS cannot be asked to help in the fellowship acceptance process, as the chronologic order is a mandatory requirement.
Are you a potential European Rhinoplasty Center Director?
To avoid a miss use of the name of “ERM-Accredited Center”, and “ERM-Director” a preliminary feedback period will be mandatory. As this ERM is starting in 2025, a preliminary 2-year period will be necessary to upgrade your center as an ERM-Accredited Center. This will be introduced by the ERM Executive Board to the EAFPS EB according to the feed-back given by the participants and the Directors after this period.
Some inclusion criteria are mandatory:

- To Have the will to be part of the EAFPS educational system
- Duration: ERM Center is valid for a two-year period corresponding to the EAFPS EB elections during the EAFPS Annual Meeting, ERM Centers must be actualized every two years after the tutor specific and written request. There will not be any automatic renewal. However, new ERM Centers can be validated in the meanwhile by the ERM-EB under the EAFPS EB decision.

- To accept to share your experience in OR with the fellows.
- To let the scholars attend your surgeries during their period, either as observers, or as assistants
- To limit your fellowship assistance to a maximum two fellows (all kind of fellows) in total at the same time
- Language: To be able to communicate in English that will be the official language. However, you can accept fellows speaking your national language.
- You will have to complete your fellow’s educational documents that will be forwarded to the EAFPS executive board.
- International Centers can be accepted, following the same conditions than the European ones. However, the applicant must attend at least two of the three in an EAFPS Center.
