The European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS) (Formerly known as The Joseph Society and as the European Academy of Facial Surgery) was established in 1977 with the primary objective of establishing a proficient community of surgeons specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery focusing on the face and neck. Its core aim is to foster a cohort of adequately trained and experienced surgeons in this specific domain. The overarching goal of the academy is to encourage comprehensive study, research, and scientific progression in the realm of plastic and reconstructive surgery, amalgamating common interests across several specialties. These specialties typically encompass otorhinolaryngology, maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology, and general plastic surgery.
While primarily catering to surgeons within Europe, the academy welcomes interest and participation from professionals outside the European region. English serves as the official language of communication within the Academy. EAFPS actively engages with the European community to delineate facial plastic surgery as a distinct entity and is proactive in advocating appropriate training programs for the subspecialty of facial plastic surgery.
The Academy administers a postgraduate fellowship program and, as a member of the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies (IFFPSS), adheres to a unified examination and certification process. This process is under the affiliation of European Board Examination – Otorhinolaryngology (EBE-ORL) for its examination and certification guidelines.
Eligibility for membership in the academy is open to registered National Board surgeons specializing in head, neck, and craniofacial surgery. Additionally, registrars or residents in training who have completed a minimum of 2 years in their specialized training post are eligible. Applications necessitate endorsement by two existing academy members. The Executive Board evaluates membership applications, and endorsement from national delegates may be sought. Reduced membership fees are available for “Junior Members” (limited to residents in training, requiring a supporting letter from their chair) and “Senior Members” (open to retired members).
EAFPS extends special subscription rates for Facial Plastic Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine (FPSAM) exclusively to its members, which surpass the value of the entire membership fee. The academy is progressively enhancing its online presence, facilitating internal communication among members, disseminating educational opportunities, and showcasing facial plastic surgery and its members to the public.
The “members only” section offers access to numerous academic videos detailing various surgeries without any additional fees. Additionally, members can manage and enhance their online presence through a customizable profile page.
EAFPS circulates a newsletter providing updates on the academy's activities, facilitating the exchange of ideas, opinions, and continuing education among its members. Annual meetings of the Academy convene once a year, requiring separate but discounted registration fees. Furthermore, affiliated/junior meetings are conducted outside Europe, while affiliated/junior courses focused on facial plastic surgery are regularly organized in diverse European countries.
We cordially invite you to join our esteemed European community comprising accomplished facial plastic surgeons. Engage in the exchange of surgical insights and experiences at an elevated international standard.
Embrace membership in our esteemed institution, renowned as a traditional gathering of professional colleagues fostering camaraderie and expertise in the field.
